Trent's Winning's
Trent has been too busy with work to post about his Yap trip, so that blog will have to come later.
We did go to the Chamarro Village and Liberation Day Carnival this week. Chamarro Village a big tourist and local spot. It is held every Wednesday, it has all kinds of food, souvenirs, cultural dancing and live bands.
I realized that we have not posted any of the local food here so we took some pics. Any kind of BBQ is a big thing here as well as red rice (made red by the Achoite Seed), chicken, beef, shrimp, fish, or venison kelaguen (any kind of meat mixed with lemon, hot peppers, onions, and sometimes shredded coconut), pancit and lumpia. Cassava dessert is one of my favorites it has Cassava root, coconut milk, eggs, vanilla etc. It has the consistency of butter mochi and it's really tasty!
The Liberation Day Carnival started a few weeks ago and goes through til July 24, Liberation Day is the 21st. The Fourth of July is celebrated here but Liberation Day is a bigger celebration, this was when the U.S. liberated Guam from Japanese occupation. The Carnival is located right next to the Chamorro Village. It is complete with rides, games, food and even a casino. It is dirty and trashy like a good carnival should be!
